In the home, there are items that are bold statements pieces like a coffee table or a chandelier that always seem to get all the attention. Well, I think that’s just unfair and today I’m going to be talking about the opposite. A subtle detail that completes the overall “aura” of a home that sometimes goes unnoticed. 

When you walk into a home the first thing you notice even before you look around the room is always the smell! It truly is the first impression for guests who subconsciously question if this will be a good experience or not.

Studies show that smell is the strongest sense tied to memory. So creating an atmosphere in your home linked to comforting aromas creates an immediately inviting experience. So, now that we know that you can set the mood for your guests from the moment they walk in the door, take advantage of that!

But let’s forget your guests for a moment and think about you coming home from a hard day’s work and breathing in the relaxing scent of lavender that just melts away the stress of the day. Smell is so much more important than we give it credit for. 

I’m talking about candles, people! But there are soooo many brands of candles, so which do you choose?? The three most important factors of a candle are: 1) It’s longevity, 2) the strength of its scent, and of course, 3) price. A lot of the time you can’t find a candle that maintains all three. Well, lucky for you, I found the best candle brand ever!!! It’s called DW Candles and when I tell you it maintains all three key points, I ain’t kiddin’! 

I first encountered DW Candles when I was in the best store ever created, HomeGoods. I was surprised by how powerful the smell was when it wasn’t even lit! And every single scent I smelled was better than the last - each so creative and unique, and always smells exactly like its name! I’m talking tons of different scents categorized from Holiday & Spice, Fall & Pumpkin, Floral & Herbal, Sweet & Savory, Fresh & Spa, Fruit & Citrus, and Wood & Masculine.

Sometimes I have my boyfriend smell the candles and guess what they are, and almost always he’s able to guess correctly! Brownie points for the bf! One single candle has the power to fill an entire room easily! Also, their smallest medium single wick lasts as long as 33 hours! That’s longer than many larger candles from other brands. Each candle comes in a variety of sizes and the largest XL triple wick burns up to 90 hours! So if you kept it lit straight through, that’s four days long of amazing smell! Ummm Yes please!

As far as price, DW’s largest candle sells for about $30, which is a really great price for the quality you're getting. However, HomeGoods also carries the brand for an extremely discounted price. At HomeGoods they also sell tiny sample sizes that would be great for gifts and stocking stuffers. I have bought sooo many of their scents, but I would have to say my favorites are the below:

• Soothing Crystal that smells exactly like my favorite perfume Issey Miyake 

• Peony Petals that smells exactly like roses, and anyone who knows me, knows roses are my ultimate favorite. Side note, I need to find a perfume that smells like roses. Anyone know??

• Sweet Pea Pomegranate that is the strongest scented candle in my opinion that smells overwhelmingly like fruit reminding me of warmer weather. Sigh.

• Calming Waves, which really holds up to its name and is very relaxing, reminding me of a fresh breeze. It gets my mind away from the hustle of the city, and I reminisce of my home upstate.

• Sea Salt & Kelp reminds me of a spa. It smells exactly like sea salt with marine sea kelp and hints of wild greens. I keep this in the bathroom and light it during the bath. 

There are seriously sooo many more I can’t live without, but we would be here all day. A candle may seem like a small and simple thing, but I dare you to try DW Candles and not be so impressed.
