W&WW: HOLIDAY PARTIES

Ohhh the holiday season is upon us! And while it’s a very merry season, all the holiday festivities can have you singing “jingle no way!” With so much time and money spent shopping for others, who has anything left over to spend on on themselves - and the multiple outfits you’ll need for all these events?! Not me, that’s for sure. Well, fear not, and leave all the frowning to the grinch!

I’ll show you how to use one garment in multiple ways so you can create several fresh looks with the same item! One piece, endless options! Triple the outfits for the price of one sounds like Santa put you on the good list this year! Don’t say I didn’t give you anything this Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Festivus! All corny jokes aside, there are some basics that are important to know when deciding what to wear that will be on trend, multi-use worthy, and functional for holiday events.

For the holiday season, warmer toned colors are on trend. Deep reds, greens, purples and blues are perfect examples of colors that we will see everywhere the next few months. Also, bring on the sparkle, ‘tis the season to shine! Accents of sparkle make any simple piece fitting for the season. For example, a glitter belt, tights or a bag. Even a sequin pant or dress are season worthy! One word of advice though: If your clothing has sparkle, then let the accessories be solid and vice versa. Let’s not blind people ok?!

Multi-use garments are the foundation for a wardrobe on a budget, and allow you to do more with less. Pairing these multi-use garments as the “centerpiece”, with different combinations of more basic pieces (which you already have in your closet), can give the illusion of a diverse outfit collection. Below you will see a sequence dress, a festive skirt with lots of movement and flow, an oversized wool sweater and a faux fur coat all worn different ways to create fun festive holiday outfits for multiple events.

A sequence dress ( with all that sparkle, just add a sexy high heel and get ready to turn heads!)

A festive skirt (with the same sequence dress worn under the skirt as a top, just add the high hell pump and you have a completely different look!)

A wool sweater (Just throw this over the sequence dress worn as a top with the festive skirt to make it more casual, creating a whole new look! You can also wear it over the sequence dress alone to create the allusion that the dress is a skirt and make it more casual as well!)

• That same festive skirt (Worn as a dress! Just add a fun belt to define your waist.)

A faux fur coat ( Pair this with any of the looks above for warmth and style!)

I can’t express how many times I see women dressed for summer in the winter and it drives me nuts! Remember to be functional for the season. Want to wear a short skirt? Add some cute tights! Open toe shoes? Add some dope plaid socks under them so you don’t freeze to death! Cute sleeveless dress? Add a tight turtle neck under it. Layers are functional for winter ladies! Just because it’s cold out and we have to cover up more doesn’t mean it has to be any less sexy! A high slit, an open back, bare shoulders are all great body parts to accentuate in the cold while still covering up the rest. That’s the great thing about living in New York, we truly have the opportunity to dress for every season so why waste it?

The holiday season can be hectic and expensive so any chance to save time and money is a huge plus. Multi-use pieces that are on trend and functional for the weather not only make life easier but allow you to do it looking fab and festive! Now you can spend your time on more important stuff, like sneaking a wish list into your boo’s wallet when he’s not looking!  Happy holidays my fierce little elves!!
